Getting a new puppy can be a fantastically rewarding experience. As long as you are okay with the situation of your new puppy cheering up all of your furniture and using all of your carpets as a toilet, then you should be able to get along fine. You need to know that training a dog can take many months and years, and that in many cases puppy will not reach maturity until they are three years old. As such it will take a lot of patience to deal with a puppy on a lot of occasions. From other people therefore it may be a better idea to adopt a more mature animal. If you are keen on getting a puppy, then here are some thoughts on giving a puppy a new home.
There are going to be quite a few things that you need to think about when you get your new puppy. Never say that he was warned, because you will be in for quite a ride over the next few years.
The first consideration that you will need to make ears whether the puppy is entirely healthy when you go and get it. It is not uncommon to find puppies in kennels that have certain physical problems associated with them, and if this is not what you want then you should look elsewhere.
The next thing that you need to take a look at is whether the puppy is fully socialised or not. This can easily be achieved by checking on the puppy at the kennel. However, having said that, it can be quite tricky sometimes finding out whether any puppy is fully socialised if they are indeed confines of a kennel where they do not feel comfortable. As such you need to try to take a few minutes a side with the puppy and play with it as much as possible to try to bring its personality out.
You really need to check on the puppy's personality in order to make sure that it is not too aggressive. It is okay to find a puppy that is a little bit reserved and shy, as this is perfectly natural in a shelter. However, finding a puppy that is overly aggressive is not going to be the best thing to do.
The last consideration that you have to make is that breed of a puppy. Most people will go in there with some predetermined idea of what sort of breed they want to have, but in many cases the breed will determine how the puppy is going to act when it becomes a dog. Certain breeds will become more aggressive and prone to lash out. Therefore if you have young children in the home it is an important consideration to make.
