If you insist that your family and friends see a doctor regularly it is because you care about them and want them to remain healthy. Your dog is no different and they need to see a doctor regularly as well to avoid many of the common ailments for dogs. Emergency appointments with your vet can be costly and often avoided with regular appointments.
You will remember that when your dog was young he had to receive a course of shots. Well to remain in good health and to aid him fight off many of these canine illnesses he will still require regular shots throughout his life. If he does not get them he is at risk to contract any of these diseases.
Ear mites are something that are very common with dogs. You should have your dog seen by a vet on a regular basis in order to keep these infestations under control. A vet will be able to tell you how severe it is, and they will prescribe you the appropriate treatment.
One of the most common infestation that dogs have to endure is either fleas or ticks and many times both at the same time. Again the vet will prescribe the required medication. However today there are so many over the counter remedies and preventions a trip to the vet is not really required.
One illness that is common to dogs is worms. By themselves they are not really an illness, but if left untreated your dog can become very ill and possibly even die from certain types of worm. Regular treatment is a must for this. Your vet can advise on the best medication.
The dental health of your pet is also very important. Vets will often clean your dogs teeth for you and show you how to do it properly. Have your vet check your dogs teeth regularly to avoid bacteria from spreading.
Because there are many common ailments for dogs, it is important to care for your dog just as you would your family. It is much easier to prevent a problem then it is to correct one after it has already happened. Make sure that you get your dog looked at regularly if you want your dog to have a long and healthy life.
